The Maramotti Collection presents This Body Made of Stardust, a large solo exhibition by Viviane Sassen consisting of over fifty photographs and a video work created from 2005 to 2025, with some new works specifically designed for this occasion. The exhibition - part of the 20th edition of the European Photography Festival, entitled Being Twenty - represents the most extensive presentation of Sassen's work in Italy to date and is curated by the artist herself. Gathered around the concept and iconography of memento mori, the exhibited shots trace ramified trajectories on the infinite possibilities and nuances of life, fertile, intense, and overflowing as intrinsically fragile: (abstractions of) human bodies, landscapes, dust, earth, organic materials become symbols and recurring reminders of death - the inevitable transformational passage of the living. In a non-narrative journey, constructed through visual fragments and formal connections between seemingly very different images, Sassen invites us to enter her multifaceted, dreamlike, and seductive universe, distilled from the everyday, imbued with Surrealism, stemming from the artist's encounter (her fantasies, obsessions, memories, and fears) with the external world.
