The show

edited by Alberto Ferraboschi and Alessandro Gazzotti
Palazzo dei Musei, 1 April 2023 / 7 January 2024

The cultural experience of Cesare Zavattini (1902-1989) is characterized by the versatility of interests and the use of different means of expression, constantly maintaining a marked "autobiographical" dimension in the creative process. The exhibition itinerary intends to illustrate the substantial organicity and coherence of Zavattini's work in the commitment to a reflection on his own self-representation and his transfiguration in the field of writing and painting. The exhibition, drawing on the rich collection of Zavattini's paintings in the Civic Museums and the documentary heritage of the Cesare Zavattini Archive kept the Panizzi Library presents a selection of materials capable of restoring the propensity for self-reflection in Zavattini's cultural and artistic experience. The strong contamination between the forms of writing and painting emerges in the itinerary, as well as the transmedia dimension of Zavattini's artistic creativity , highlighting the strong connection between painting and literature that has characterized the activity of the Luzzarese author since the beginning of the Thirties and destined to accompany him constantly during his artistic itinerary.
