Sebastião Salgado. Exodus – Humanity on the move , curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado and composed of 180 photographs , is divided into four sections: Migrants and refugees: the survival instinct, The African tragedy: a continent adrift, Latin America: rural exodus, urban disorder, Asia: the new urban face of the world. The exhibition ends with a room dedicated to portraits of children, representative of tens of millions more who can be found in the slums, refugee camps and rural settlements of Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

In 1993 Sebastião Salgado began his photographic, physical and existential journey in the galaxy of migrations. In six years the Brazilian reporter has traveled four continents with works that capture departures and arrivals, refugee camps where millions of people live an uncertain destiny. Since then the map of the world appears to have changed, but the exodus of entire populations is more relevant than ever and the conditions of refugees or migrants represent a scenario that is taking on increasingly global dimensions. « Today more than ever, I feel that the human race is one» Salgado wrote already in 1999 «There are differences in colour, language, culture and opportunities, but the feelings and reactions of all people are similar. We hold the key to humanity's future in our hands, but we must understand the present. These photographs show a portion of our present. We cannot afford to look the other way. »As part of the Festival of Cultures , Salgado's photographs arrive at the MAR Museum of Art of the city of Ravenna in a large exhibition organized by the Municipality of Ravenna - Department of Culture and Mosaic and Department of Immigration, Politics and Gender Culture - in collaboration with Contrasto and thanks to the contribution of the Emilia - Romagna Region, Fondazione del Monte di Bologna and Ravenna, Marcegaglia .
