The Center for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci in Prato presents, from Saturday, December 14, 2024, to Sunday, May 11, 2025, the exhibition Peter Hujar: Actions and Portraits / Journeys in Italy curated by Grace Deveney with Stefano Collicelli Cagol.The exhibition is the Italian iteration of the exhibition project curated by Grace Deveney, David C. and Sarajean Ruttenberg Associate Curator of Photography and Media at the Art Institute of Chicago, at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2023, reimagined for the spaces of the Center for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci and enriched by a corpus of 20 photographic images taken by Hujar during his travels in Italy, between the Fifties and Seventies, and a selection of 39 shots dedicated to the protagonists of the emerging performance scene in Lower Manhattan in the Seventies. Peter Hujar: Actions and Portraits / Journeys in Italy is part of the annual programming of Tuscany at the Center, along with the exhibition Louis Fratino. Satura (until February 2, 2025) and Margherita Manzelli. The young ladies (from December 14, 2024, to May 11, 2025) which opens simultaneously.The exhibition connects the experimentation pursued by Hujar and his subjects with the new realities that each of them has created, both through photographs and performances. The exhibition path includes 59 shots by Hujar and, in line with the spirit of collaboration and exchange that characterized the New York scene of the Seventies, it includes a video by Sheryl Sutton and 3 works by David Wojnarowicz, two of the artists and performers belonging to the circle of the American photographer.
