Palazzo Fabroni is located in the center of Pistoia and houses the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Civic Museums. The Museum was inaugurated in 1997 thanks to private donations and municipal acquisitions of works from the contemporary art scene. The collection includes masterpieces of twentieth century sculpture and painting. The museum's heritage is of great importance as it spans the entire period of the avant-gardes: surrealism, neoclassicism, constructivism, abstract expressionism, poor art and minimalism. Of historical and artistic significance are the works of Claudio Parmiggiani, Mario Nigro, Fernando Melani, Luciano Fabro, Enrico Castellani, Alfredo Pirri, Vittorio Messina and many others. In 2011 the collection was enriched thanks to the donation of the photographer Aurelio Amendola of eleven photographic portraits of artists he made during his professional career. Among the artists photographed we find Castellani, De Chirico, Kounellis, Marini, Warhol, Burri and Castellani. The exhibition itinerary ends with the images of Mario Carnicelli that tell the participation in the funeral of Palmiro Togliatti in 1964.
