The National Museum – Architecture (Nasjonalmuseet – Arkitektur), located at Bankplassen 3 in the center of Oslo, is the architectural section of the National Museum of Art, Architecture, and Design, opened in 2008 in restored and expanded historic buildings. The complex combines the neoclassical style of Christian Heinrich Grosch (1830) with the modern pavilion by Sverre Fehn (2002), offering a harmonious contrast between past and present.
The collection, the largest of its kind in Norway, includes over 300,000 artifacts: drawings, photographs, models, sketches, correspondence, and ephemeral materials, from 1830 to contemporary architecture.
Among the represented architects are Ove Bang, Arne Korsmo, Christian Norberg-Schulz, and the Pritzker Prize winner Sverre Fehn.
The museum hosts temporary exhibitions on architectural themes, sustainable cities, restoration, and urban design; the Study Room, open by appointment on Thursdays, allows access to original materials from the collection.
