The archaeological area of Cosa, located on the promontory of Ansedonia in an area of extraordinary landscape value, includes the remains of the colony founded by the Romans in 273 BC, defended by cyclopean walls equipped with imposing gates, to control the territory just taken from the Etruscans of the Vulci area. The Fiorentina gate is now the entrance to the site and to the small museum that collects the numerous archaeological materials found in the area: the terracotta decorations of the temples of the arx, the marble sculptures, the ceramic artifacts, the glass and metal objects and ivory from the houses, the port, and the necropolises of the ancient city. The visit itinerary of the archaeological area winds through private residences, such as the House of the Skeleton and the House of Diana, an imposing thermal complex, and the forum. From here, following the sacred road, you reach the arx, where the main temples of the city are located and from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Argentario, the two tombolos of Giannella and Feniglia, and the historic center of Orbetello.
