The Archaeological Museum of Nola is housed in the prestigious building that was once a Canossian convent. The visit starts from the prehistoric section, marked by a thematic itinerary. In the first room the volcanic activity of the Somma-Vesuvius is illustrated, outlined through the different eruptive typologies. In the following rooms are exhibited the Ancient Bronze finds characterizing the facies of Palma Campania, and materials that testify the effect of the eruption of the so-called Pomici di Avellino. In addition, one of the huts found during the excavation of the settlement in Croce del Papa in Nola was rebuilt. The prehistoric one is followed by a section dedicated to the origins of Nola, which embraces a chronological span that goes from the eighth to the sixth century BC. The rooms dedicated to the "City of the Knights" follow, with reference to the period between the sixth and fourth centuries BC. C .. The nodal point of the section are the painted box and semi-chamber tombs, which follow one another in the center of the room, where a large full-scale blow-up of the "Tomb of the Knight" has also been placed, showing the original arrangement of the painted plates. The box burials of the Casamarciano area are reconstructed on site, including the so-called Tomba dei Togati and the so-called Tomba della Dancatrice. The museum itinerary continues with the latest testimonies relating to the Oscan presence; this is the period from the Roman conquest of the city (313-312 BC) until the outbreak of the social war (90-88 BC). Among the exhibits some come from the sanctuaries found at Cimitile and in San Paolo Belsito, both evidence of the architectural currents of micro-Asian origin. The tour continues on the first floor of the complex with the illustration of the testimonies of the imperial age, up to a room entirely dedicated to the so-called villa of Augustus found in Somma Vesuviana. Finally, the exhibition ends with a section dedicated to the end of the ancient world and the Middle Ages.
