The Castel Sant'Elmo and Museo del Novecento in Naples is located on the Vomero, near the Museum and Certosa di San Martino .
Castel Sant'Elmo has medieval origins, in fact it was built in 1275 and was inhabited by the relatives of King Charles of Anjou .
The Museo del Novecento was born in 2010 in the historic High Prison of Castel Sant'Elmo . The Museo del Novecento houses a collection of contemporary art by Neapolitan artists active in Naples between 1910 and 1980.
The aim is to chronologically document the artistic developments in twentieth-century Naples . The works on display include the periods from the Secession to the Transavantgarde . Sculptures, paintings and graphics are exhibited for a total of 230 works created by 116 Neapolitan artists .
Among the artists present there are Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Mimmo Paladino, Ernesto Tatafiore, Eugenio Viti and Giovanni Brancaccio . Inside the spaces of the Carcere Alto there are the library, the Art History photo library and the panoramic walk, which will allow the visitor to enjoy a splendid view of Naples.
