The Torrione was built in 1482 as a defensive structure of Corciano. It was designed by Pietro Lombardo and built by Bartolo di Meo Lombardo, masters active in Perugia and Umbria at that time. It has a circular plan and a body that narrows in the center and widens at the bottom and top. It is adjacent to Porta Santa Maria, the only one of the two ancient city gates still existing. The tower has been used as an exhibition space since 2015 and is divided into three small rooms: the Sala dei Massari, at street level, where parts of military clothing and attack and defense weapons used in a typical castle in the Perugia area between the 15th and 16th centuries are preserved; the "Sala delle Bertesche", on the upper floor, which houses wooden sculptures from the 15th-16th centuries, a testimony of the local artistic history, the acts of the community and the statute of the castle of Corciano, where the rules regarding the management of the municipal administration and its relations with Perugia and the Holy See are collected; the "Sala della Chiave", located on the lower floor, where the ancient key to access the city is kept and where some images depicting the changes of Corciano over time are exhibited.
