The Morra Greco Foundation is pleased to present Work for Living Nature, not just Capitals, the new exhibition project dedicated to the American artist Peter Fend, curated by Massimiliano Scuderi. The exhibition stems from the experience of two artistic residencies that Fend carried out at the Foundation during 2024, during which the artist had the opportunity to work on new works, developing unpublished research closely connected to the local territory.Interacting with the dynamic cultural fabric of Naples and Campania, Fend has consolidated his interdisciplinary approach that intertwines art, ecology, and geopolitics. The exhibition - also realized with the support of the Campania Region - aims not only to be a collection of works, but also an active reflection on how art can become an operational means to address contemporary challenges, both environmental and social.
Art beyond the art systemSince 1978, Peter Fend has redefined the role of the artist as an agent of transformation and art as a tool for analysis and concrete intervention on environmental and geopolitical issues. His practice extends beyond exhibition spaces, intertwining with the socio-political sphere, merging with science, architecture, and economics to propose concrete solutions to environmental emergencies. In the 1980s, Fend co-founded Ocean Earth with other artists, an organization conceived as a tool to implement the goals of the environmental art movement, using satellite images to monitor the environment and identify alternative energy sources. With a radical and interdisciplinary approach, Fend demonstrates how art can be not only a form of representation but an active means to rethink the relationship between man and nature. In particular, his work emphasizes a return to the sea and rivers - essential elements for the ecological and social rebirth of communities.
A project born on the territoryIn 2024, the Morra Greco Foundation welcomed Fend for two residencies during which the artist developed a series of projects closely connected to the Campania territory. During his stay, he explored the Sarno and Volturno rivers, analyzing their environmental conditions and engaging with local associations and entities committed to the protection of water resources. From this investigation arise the works at the center of Work for Living Nature, not just Capitals, which combine cartography, satellite images, and materials collected on-site. The result is an artistic practice that configures itself as a true method of operational research on the territory, highlighting the urgency of adopting sustainable strategies for the management of natural resources.
Art, ecology, and geopoliticsThe exhibition presents a series of installations, maps, and models of environmental intervention through which Peter Fend explores the link between art and sustainability. Drawing inspiration from Russian constructivism, American conceptual art, and the ecological practices of Joseph Beuys, the artist proposes an innovative vision of the use of natural resources, aiming to create autonomous economies and alternatives to traditional capitalist models. With Work for Living Nature, not just Capitals, the Morra Greco Foundation offers an overview of Peter Fend's pioneering practice, an art that goes beyond representing the world, becoming an active agent of change, proposing visionary and concrete solutions for a sustainable future.

Project co-financed with resources from the Strategic Culture and Tourism Plan 2024/2025 - Global Forum Project for Contemporary Art Exhibitions EDI 2024 of the Campania Region.
