FMAV Fondazione Modena Arti Visive presents on June 7, 2024 (until September 15, 2024), at FMAV Palazzina dei Giardini the exhibition Facce da Biennale curated by Chiara Dall'Olio, while the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale is taking place. In Modena, 106 black and white photographs have been selected from the archive of over 10,000 shots "Archivio Arte Fondazione," owned by the Modena Foundation, consisting of 6x6 cm film negatives taken by the Cameraphoto photographic agency in Venice. The images on display tell the story of the most important Italian contemporary art event recognized worldwide, the Venice Art Biennale, using the perspective of its visitors. Since its first edition in 1895, the Venetian event has attracted increasing attention from the public, not only from professionals, artists, curators, critics, collectors, and journalists who see it as an unmissable meeting opportunity, but also from personalities in the world of politics and entertainment, and increasingly from art enthusiasts and curious visitors. The photographs depict the openings of the main exhibitions set up in the national pavilions between 1948 and 1986. The exhibition opens with a portrait of Palma Bucarelli, director of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome from 1942 to 1975, portrayed in front of a Picasso at the 1948 Biennale. Subsequently, the shots capture visitors during the following editions in the rooms of Giorgio Morandi, Filippo de Pisis, Alexander Calder, Giorgio De Chirico. A perplexed Alberto Sordi peeks through Alberto Viani's sculpture "Nudo" at the 1958 Biennale, an unintentional anticipation of the famous scenes from the 1978 film "Dove vai in vacanza?" where he will play the role of an inexperienced visitor to the Venetian pavilions. The exhibition tells of the presence in Venice of artists such as Jackson Pollock, Emilio Vedova, Alberto Burri, Franz Kline, Alberto Giacometti, Giuseppe Capogrossi, to name a few.
