From 13 September to 16 November 2024
The drawings on display were chosen from the many created by Bazlen from 1944 to 1950 and represent the visual diary of his psychoanalytic therapy with Ernst Bernhard, based on the practice of active imagination. It consists of expressing dreams and fantasies images in a different technique than usual as a key to reading the unconscious. Bernhard asks Bazlen, a writer, to draw, and he gradually refines his technique, starting from pencil and ink drawings, to watercolors, and in the last period to mandalas. Almost always behind the drawings are indicated the date of the dream and the moment when it was fixed on paper.

Roberto Bazlen (Trieste 1902- Milan 1965), also known as Bobi, was one of the most prodigious, imaginative, and mysterious men in Italian 20th-century publishing. In 1962, with Luciano Foà, he was among the founders of Adelphi. He discovered Svevo, conversed with Montale, introduced Freud, Jung, Kafka, and Musil to Italy. More generally, he spread Central European culture and some works of Eastern literature in our country.
