Alessandro Manzoni lived in many houses, but the one that we can actually consider as his is that of Via Morone 1. This is where he lived from 1810 until 1873, the year of his death. For Manzoni this house was a place for meetings with illustrious personalities and writers from the Milan area of the nineteenth century. After Manzoni's death, the house was put up for sale and purchased by Count Bernardo Arnaboldi Gazzaniga, who allowed the study and bedroom to be visited on the anniversary of the “illustrious deceased”. In the 1900s the house saw several owners, up to the Municipality of Milan. With the collaboration of the National Center for Manzonian Studies, the building was restored to restore the house to the conditions it was in when Manzoni died. The restoration works were interrupted due to the Second World War and were completed only in 1965, when the Museum was inaugurated. Today the Museum is open to visitors and various seminars and meetings on literature based entirely on the Betrothed are held inside.
