The Musée des civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations) is a museum in Marseille. It is an anthropology museum dedicated to the study, preservation, and mediation of the anthropological heritage of the European and Mediterranean area. The museum's goal is to create a place for meeting and exchange to understand the world and the society we live in, also through temporary exhibitions that spark debates on major social issues. The Museum promotes programs of ethnographic research on European and Mediterranean territories, sometimes in collaboration with regional, national, or international research institutions. The museum's permanent collection consists of documents and objects, both material and immaterial: testimonies and facts of society. The actual objects are always connected to precise documentation, whether it be films, photographs, interviews, and archives, allowing to trace the history, production and consumption techniques, and customs of various civilizations. The museum won the "European Museum of the Year" award in 2015.
