The Musée des Beaux Arts de Marseille is one of the main museums in the city of Marseille. It is located in the left wing of the Palais Longchamp, a building built in the 19th century which also houses another museum, the Musée d'histoire naturelle de Marseille. Established in 1801, the Musée des Beaux Arts de Marseille is one of the first 15 museums created in France by the Consulate. Its permanent collection features works from the 16th to the 19th centuries. There are works of painting, sculpture, autographed drawings and engravings. The painting collection includes works from the French, Italian, Spanish and Nordic Schools (Flanders and Holland). Among the main authors of the French School of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries we remember de Champaigne, La Soeur, Vouet, David, Greuze. There are also many famous names of the nineteenth century, such as Courbet, Daumier, Ingres and Millet, but also many artists more typically of the Provençal school. Among the artists of the Italian school you can admire works by Cagnacci, Carracci, Maratta, Reni and Tiepolo. Among the Dutch school the presence of Rubens stands out. The museum also organizes important temporary exhibitions.
