Located at 23–25 rue Thubaneau, in the heart of the Belsunce district, the Mémorial de la Marseillaise pays tribute to the origin of the French national anthem. Created from the historic location of the Club des Jacobins, it is here that in June 1792 the Marseille volunteers sang for the first time the "Chant de guerre pour l’armée du Rhin", which would become La Marseillaise.
Inaugurated in 2011 and now integrated into the network of the Museum of History of Marseille, the memorial offers a multimedia scenic tour of about 45 minutes divided into three main thematic spaces. In the Room of the Marseillaise, you can listen to variations of the anthem through headphones and videos, including famous interpretations. In the Room of the Grievances, animated busts – with voices and comments – tell the story of the Revolution from the citizens' point of view. The visit culminates in the Jeu de Paume room, where the viewer experiences the march of the federates towards Paris through an immersive exhibition of sounds, images, and historical reconstructions.
