The Musée Cantini is a museum of modern art in Marseille. Inaugurated in 1936, the Musée Cantini houses an important collection of modern art, spanning from the 1900s to 1980. The museum features works from various artistic movements: pointillism, fauvism, cubism, as well as art from the interwar period, surrealism, and more contemporary art from the post-war period to the 1980s. Visitors can admire works by popular artists such as Derain, Léger, Picasso, Matisse, Le Courbousier, Ernst, Mirò, Jean Arp, Balthus, Giacometti, Dubuffet, Tàpies, Bacon, and several others. The Musée Cantini is located in a Hotel Particulier (a historic private residence) from the late 17th century, which, after passing through various families, including Jules Cantini, was eventually donated to the city of Marseille to become a museum of decorative art. The museum is very active in organizing important exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.
