The taste for the ancient that belonged to the Gonzagas and the great artistic civilization of Mantua come back to life in the city museum of Palazzo San Sebastiano, the restored home of Francesco II Gonzaga and of Mantegna's "Triumphs of Caesar". An extraordinary group of works belonging to the Civic Collections tell the story of Mantua between Humanism and the Renaissance: ancient and Renaissance statues, busts and reliefs, paintings, detached frescoes, seventeenth-century copies of the Mantegnesque Triumphs, noble coats of arms, refined architectural finds from the monuments of the city and its surroundings. The Palace offers the opportunity to enjoy the splendid Loggia dei Marmi and wonderful cycles of frescoes from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. The Museum houses the Study and Documentation Center on civic collections, offers the opportunity for educational tours and periodically presents temporary exhibitions.
