The CAC Málaga is the contemporary art center of Málaga.

The museum is located in what used to be the Malaga wholesale market, a historic building located on the left bank of the mouth of the Guadalmedina River. The building in 1987, the old Wholesale Market was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, covers a total area of ​​6,000 square meters, of which 2,400 square meters are used for exhibitions.

The CAC is inspired by the German model of the Art Houses, known as Kunsthaus, and aims to be a place for reflection on contemporary art.

It is an open and dynamic artistic center that over time has become an international reference point in the panorama of 20th and 21st century art.

The permanent collection consists of over 400 works, but the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops and congresses. The permanent collection of the CAC Málaga consists of a selection of works that progressively increases, responding in part to the procurement program of the City of Málaga and combining this system with the transfer of works by private collectors in certain periods, according to a model who has worked successfully in other major art centers around the world.

The set of works that currently make up the collection allows a path between the different movements and artistic trends of the twentieth century, with particular attention to the last decades.

Composed of a large number of pieces of very recent creation, they are presented in exhibitions that are periodically renewed and are an example of the eclectic landscape that makes up contemporary art today. The artists present are important performers such as Louise Bourgeois, Art & Language, Olafur Eliasson, Thomas Hirschhorn, Damian Hirst, Julian Opie, Thomas Ruff or Thomas Struth.

Particular attention is paid to Spanish art since the 1980s, and to the promotion of art and artists from Andalusia.

The names of artists such as Victoria Civera, Juan Muñoz, José María Sicilia, Miquel Barceló, Santiago Sierra, Juan Uslé stand out.

As regards the latest trends, the presence of national and international reference authors stands out who, due to their capacity for innovation and the quality of their work, exert a great influence on today's artistic activity.
