The Carme Thyssen Malaga Museum houses a remarkable collection of Spanish and Andalusian paintings from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Museum is housed in an exceptional architectural site where historical structures are flanked by a modern architecture specially designed to complement the museum displays.
The neighborhood where it stands is also of considerable importance as regards the Renaissance architecture of the sixteenth century in the city. Palacio de Villalón, the main seat of the museum, is a noble residence from the late 15th - early 16th century, reformed and enlarged in the 18th century by the Villalón family, from which it takes its name.
The collection on display presents a series of paintings by old masters, among which the 'Santa Marina' of Zurbarán stands out. Another section is dedicated to the romantic landscape and costumbrism, with pieces by Genaro Pérez Villaamil, Manuel Barrón and the Domínguez Bécquer. Through the works of Marià Fortuny we enter the space of precious painting and naturalist landscape, to then move on to Spanish art of the end of the century, with Joaquín Sorolla, Anglada i Camarasa, Ignacio Zuloaga and Julio Romero de Torres. In addition, the museum periodically organizes temporary exhibitions
