The Culture and Museums Foundation (FCM) and the Museum of Cultures in Lugano (MUSEC) announce the winners of the 2024 edition of Unpublished Photo (UP), an international competition created to promote new trends in art photography among young talents from around the world. The initiative, originally conceived by the Milanese gallery 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS, is now a significant event in the international art scene, supported by FCM and MUSEC since 2020 to provide it with an institutional framework and a medium to long-term development perspective.The UP competition aims to identify and enhance the main emerging trends in contemporary art photography. Each edition, MUSEC aims to enrich its collections with new works, thus contributing to the creation of an archive of contemporary photography that already includes over 40,000 works, from the nineteenth century to the present day.The 2024 edition of UP saw the participation of over two hundred young photographers from thirty-five countries, with a strong representation from Iran, Italy, India, and Russia. Candidates, aged between 18 and 30, presented their projects consisting of 10 images on a free theme, consistent in style and content.The winning projects are exhibited at the Maraini Space of Villa Malpensata, home of MUSEC in Lugano from October 24, 2024, to March 9, 2025. The exhibition, curated by Alessia Borellini, presents six images from each portfolio accompanied by a project description and some biographical notes about the artists.The eponymous catalog, published by FCM, presents the complete portfolio of each winner and contributions from some of the actors involved in the UP project.As a complement to the exhibition, collateral events dedicated to photography enthusiasts will be organized.The next edition of the competition, UP25, will be open from January 20 to March 3, 2025. Interested photographers are invited to follow MUSEC's social channels (IG @museclugano and FB MusecLugano) for updates; once the competition is online, they can apply through the form available on the Culture and Museums Foundation website: www.fcmusei.ch/contest.
