The Museo Nazionale di Storia Naturale e della Scienza (MUHNAC), managed by the University of Lisbon, is the main Portuguese museum dedicated to nature and scientific dissemination. Officially born in 2011 from the merger of the university's Museum of Natural History and Museum of Science, it also includes the Jardim Botânico de Lisboa and the Osservatorio Astronomico dell'Ajuda.
The museum houses collections rich in over 250 years of scientific history: zoology, anthropology, geology, botany, and mineralogy. Among the notable pieces are fossil skeletons (including dinosaur remains), taxidermized specimens, rare minerals, native seeds, sound recordings of species, and anthropological artifacts.
The complex includes historical buildings such as the amphitheater and the nineteenth-century chemical laboratory, the Real Picadeiro of the Colégio dos Nobres (1761), the historical reading room, the botanical garden (1878), and the astronomical observatory (1898).
The MUHNAC offers permanent and temporary exhibitions, educational workshops, conferences, workshops, and cultural activities open to all ages. It is perfect for those who wish to explore science interactively, from enthusiasts to families.
