Man and animals, a fascinating bond that has accompanied humanity since its origins. From the process of domestication, a deep and mutual relationship was born, leading to the development of Veterinary Medicine (from the Latin veterinus, draft or pack animal) and the understanding of animal species. It is on these foundations that the Museum of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Padova is based, a modern institution with noble and ancient roots.

Established in the mid-1990s, the Museum houses a collection of osteological and plastinated specimens belonging to domestic and wild animals, some of which date back to the ancient zooiatric cabinet of Padua, active between 1774 and 1873 and founded by the veterinary physician Giuseppe Orus. Despite being one of the most recently formed museums, its collections are of great historical, educational, and cultural value, offering a unique insight into normal and pathological anatomy in the world of vertebrates.

Today, the Museum is part of the Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Food Science (BCA) of the University of Padova and represents a fundamental reference for students at the Agripolis Campus and increasingly for schools, researchers, enthusiasts, and the merely curious.
