The Kunsthaus Hamburg is a Hamburg exhibition center dedicated to contemporary art. Opened in 1962, it is located near the central station, in the former covered market of the city. Through the organization of individual and collective temporary exhibitions, both on fine arts and related disciplines, it deals both with promoting and launching emerging local, national and international artistic generations, and with giving space to the most famous artistic personalities of the city of Hamburg . Five to eight exhibitions are regularly organized every year, as well as conferences and spaces for debate on current and socially relevant issues, which also makes the Kunsthaus Hamburg an important place for communication and cultural and social exchange. The Kunsthaus Hamburg offers an overview of the current local young talent scene each year, through the presentation of candidates for the Hamburg Scholarship and the annual exhibition of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Hamburg. Furthermore, since 2007 the winners of the Finkenwerder Art Prize, one of the most prestigious art prizes in Europe, have been exhibited at the Kunsthaus Hamburg.
