From 4 November to 27 January 2024
The exhibition analyses, within a European context, the events of the artistic movement that revolutionized the history of nineteenth-century Italian painting , focusing on the innovations that the fathers of plein air art developed, anticipating, with surprising modernity, the outcomes subsequently proposed by the French Impressionists.
The exhibition offers 80 works by authors such as Telemaco Signorini, Giovanni Fattori, Giuseppe Abbati, Silvestro Lega, Vincenzo Cabianca, Raffaello Sernesi, Odoardo Borrani , in dialogue with those of some of the representatives of the Barbizon School, all protagonists of the evolution of this movement , fundamental for the birth of modern Italian painting.
The exhibition itinerary will start from the relationship that the Macchiaioli had with the French scene and then continue by delving into the technical innovations relating to the theme of landscape, genre and historical painting, leading the public to immerse themselves in a very lively historical and cultural moment, from which the revolt of these new painters emerge, together with their strong artistic and human personalities.
