From 8 April to 9 October 2022 the exhibition “ Tina Modotti . Women, Mexico and Freedom ", promoted by the Palazzo Ducale Foundation, Liguria Region, Municipality of Genoa, produced by 24 ORE Cultura-Gruppo 24 ORE, curated by Biba Giacchetti, in collaboration with Sudest57 and realized thanks to the fundamental scientific contribution of the Tina Committee Modotti.
Among the greatest female interpreters of the artistic avant -garde of the last century, Tina Modotti expressed her idea of freedom through photography and political and social commitment, becoming an icon of the country that had welcomed her but soon transcending the borders of Mexico in its short life, to be thus recognized on the world art scene. Even today Tina Modotti remains the symbol of an emancipated and modern woman, whose art is inextricably linked to the search for a "new humanity".
On display are a hundred photographs, original silver salts prints from the 1970s made from Tina's negatives, which Vittorio Vidali delivered to the photographer Riccardo Toffoletti, who was the protagonist of his rediscovery, as well as photographs, letters and documents preserved. by his sister Jolanda, and video for a fascinating story, which will bring the public closer to this free spirit, who went through misery and fame, art and political and social commitment, arrests and persecutions, but which also aroused boundless admiration for the full and constant respect for herself, her thinking, and her freedom.
