On the occasion of the exhibition “Nostalgia. Modernity of a feeling from the Renaissance to the Contemporary” Palazzo Ducale presents “Orlando's Library”, a site-specific installation by Daniela Comani

The protagonists of the novels of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Emile Zola, Ernest Hemingway and many others... at Palazzo Ducale. The covers of many literary masterpieces will be reproduced in a large site-specific installation by Daniela Comani who will "manipulate" the titles of some classics in a "gender" key, transforming the openings of the main floor into many trompe-l'oeils.

52 covers created between 2007 and 2024 in different languages and editions will occupy the thirteen arches of the Loggia and will create an effect of depth and three-dimensionality, giving life to a library composed of virtual shelves with an evocative and realistic result.

Orlando's Library – this is the title of the work – is based on the photographic series Novità editoriali edited by Daniela Comani/New Publications edited by Daniela Comani (work in progress since 2007) by the same artist. Comani "rewrites" the titles of immortal works of world literature by changing the gender of the protagonists of the stories and using "gendering" as an artistic strategy. Thomas Mann's Toni Kröger thus becomes "Tonia Kröger" while Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author becomes "Six Characters in Search of an Author" and Italo Calvino's Cosimo becomes "The Baroness in the Trees".
