On the occasion of the exhibition Nostalgia. Modernity of a feeling from the Renaissance to the Contemporary Palazzo Ducale presents "Orlando's Library", a site-specific installation by Daniela Comani
The protagonists of the novels by Fëdor Dostoevskij, Emile Zola, Ernest Hemingway and many others... at Palazzo Ducale. The covers of many literary masterpieces will be reproduced in a large site-specific installation by Daniela Comani who will "manipulate" the titles of some classics in a "gender" key transforming the openings of the main floor into many trompe-l'oeil.
52 covers made between 2007 and 2024 in different languages and editions will occupy the thirteen arches of the Loggia and create an effect of depth and three-dimensionality giving life to a library composed of virtual shelves with a suggestive and realistic result.
Orlando's Library - this is the title of the work - is based on the photographic series New Publications edited by Daniela Comani (work in progress since 2007) by the same artist. Comani "rewrites" the titles of immortal works of world literature by changing the gender of the protagonists of the stories and using "gendering" as an artistic strategy. Toni Kröger by Thomas Mann thus becomes "Tonia Kröger" while Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author transform into "Six Characters in Search of an Authoress" and Cosimo by Italo Calvino becomes "The Baroness in the Trees".
