The Ducal Palace of Genoa presents the new photographic exhibition "Meriggiare pallido e assorto. Eugenio Montale: 100 images for the 100 years of Ossi di Seppia", on the occasion of the hundred years since the first publication of the collection of verses by the Genoese poet. A project that entrusts the photographic language of three young Italian talents, Iole Carollo, Anna Positano, and Delfino Sisto Legnani, with the narrative of one of the poetic texts that have marked the entire twentieth century, redefining the role of poetry in relation to reality.
The exhibition, curated by Ilaria Bonacossa and Paolo Verri with Michela Murialdo, will be visible until June 29 in the halls of the Sottoporticato of the Ducal Palace.
Starting from the study of the verses of Ossi di Seppia and drawing inspiration from the literary inventions of the author, Iole Carollo, Anna Positano, and Delfino Sisto Legnani have created a new series of 99 photographs that creatively reproduce the places as Montale saw them, as spaces of relationship between the individual and the territory, capable of reflecting the mutations caused by historical events. With the same intentions, but relying on the photographic language, the authors' shots explore the changing relationship between human beings and nature. The hundredth exhibited shot is instead the famous portrait of the poet with his hoopoe, by Ugo Mulas.
Through a visual investigation that alternates close-up detail with the breadth of the landscape, photography becomes a tool to observe how nature decomposes and reorganizes itself, constantly transforming. Plants, rocks, cliffs, and details of the natural marine, terrestrial, and urban landscape become signs of this transformation, telling the fragmentation of matter and the stratification of time.
