Jewish Museum of Florence

The Jewish Museum of Florence is located in the historic center of the city.

The Jewish Museum of Florence was strongly supported by Fernando Belgrade and opened in 1981 thanks to the donation of Marta del Mar Bigiavi .

The Jewish Museum of Florence was built inside the important Temple for its monumentality and artistic history.

The cellars were discarded due to the 1966 flood which compromised their use. The Museum is very small, but with a rich and suggestive collection . The collections of the Jewish Museum are set up on two floors inside the Synagogue . The first section tells the story of the Jews in Florence over the centuries.

On the second floor are exhibited domestic and private objects and furnishings that illustrate life and religious holidays. The itinerary is enriched by archival documents and original films that introduce and develop Jewish history over the last two centuries. The furnishings found along the corridors and in the halls come from the two synagogues of the Ghetto.

The second part of the Museum collects the drawings and objects that briefly illustrate the origins of the Florentine Jewish community.
