The Museum of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence is located in the city center. The factory of precious stones is an institution among the most important in the world in the field of restoration. The Museum is attached Opificio delle Pietre Dure from 1588 that deals with the processing of precious stones. The museum was therefore with the aim of disseminating and promoting the Opificio conservation activities. In fact, the museum does not propose a real collection, but highlight the productive activities and secular institution. The collection consists of some examples of works in precious stones: tables, decorated and inlaid plaques and plates with different painting scenes. Some rooms are dedicated to the display of various special stones like paesina stone and malachite. The different floors house tools for inlays of semiprecious stones dating back to the Medici and furnishings decorated in Art Nouveau style. Among all we highlight the table with flowers and birds of Nicholas Betti and with harp table plan and garlands Zocchi. The present construction introduces the exhibition of stone materials of different origin and composition. In addition, there are workbenches, tools, and a rich set of stone samples. The museum offers of educational activities and workshops open to all for a complete understanding of its activities and objectives.
