The Caverna delle Arene Candide is one of the most relevant archaeological sites of European Prehistory.

The cave has yielded famous findings including the paleolithic burial, dated to around 28,000 years ago, of a teenager who died due to a violent facial trauma. Due to the richness of the grave goods consisting of ornaments and various objects, it was soon named the "Young Prince".

The international importance of the Cave stems from the fact that inside it preserves a sequence of about 10 meters of sediments containing impressive traces of human occupation between the Upper Paleolithic (around 34,000 years ago) and the 6th-7th century AD. It still represents the most articulated and complete archaeological stratigraphy of the Western Mediterranean.

Since the second half of the 19th century, the Cave has been the subject of numerous and intense archaeological research that continues to this day. Since 2019, an agreement between the Superintendence, the Municipality of Finale Ligure, and the Archaeological Museum of Finale has allowed the opening to the public of this "sanctuary" of Prehistory. Through a guided tour by archaeologists, visitors can embark on a journey back in time retracing the captivating research conducted over more than 150 years of archaeological studies and excavations.

To complete the visit to the Caverna delle Arene Candide, it is possible to delve into some themes at the Archaeological Museum of Finale located in Finalborgo within the Monumental Complex of Santa Caterina. In the rooms dedicated to the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods, numerous artifacts found during the excavations are exhibited. Ample space is dedicated to the "Young Prince", the paleolithic necropolis, ceramics, and neolithic burials. Original materials, object reproductions, multimedia totems, video projections, and dioramas help uncover the ways of life, culture, traditions, and rituals of the ancient inhabitants of the Cave.

Periodically, the Cave hosts events and manifestations including "Connecting to the Earth. Meditation and sound bath in the Caverna delle Arene Candide". A journey through sensations of sounds, accompanied by various musical instruments such as Tibetan bowls, wind chimes, shamanic drums, and harp. Vibrations and sounds emitted act on the body at an emotional, mental, and spiritual level, filling the space of the Cave.
