From 19 September to 19 October 2025
From September 19 to October 19, 2025, the Civic Museum Ala Ponzone presents to the public two new works recently added to the collections, in an exhibition that creates an ideal arc between the first and the last protagonist of Lombard neoclassicism: Giuseppe Diotti and Enrico Scuri.
The journey begins with the splendid sketch of the large painting that Giuseppe Diotti (1779-1846) created between 1838 and 1840 for Emperor Ferdinand I, destined for the Imperial Gallery of Vienna. The work, coming from the collection of the painter Pietro Ronzoni, has been recognized by the most recent studies as one of the most important preparatory sketches of the famous Viennese painting. Thanks to a donation, the Museum of Cremona can now present it to the public, enriching the knowledge of Diotti's production.
Alongside this, the Portrait of Rosalia Guidi di Bagno by Enrico Scuri (1806-1884) is exhibited, executed posthumously in 1847 and immediately replicated. The version now on display, long considered lost and recently resurfaced in the antiquarian market, was donated to the Pinacoteca by the Friends of the Ala Ponzone Museum Association. The painting, an expression of the formal rigor typical of Scuri's purism, combines a memorial intent with an intense evocative force.
With this exhibition, the Civic Museum Ala Ponzone offers the public the opportunity to admire two works that, coming from different contexts, enrich the city's heritage and create an ideal bridge between two eras of Lombard painting.
