In the 500 years since the artist's death, the Diocesan Museum of Cremona announces, from October 10, 2025 to January 11, 2026, the first monographic exhibition on Boccaccio Boccaccino (Ferrara?, 1462/before August 22, 1466 - Cremona, 1525). The event is organized by the Diocesan Museum of Cremona in collaboration with the ABAP Superintendence for the provinces of Cremona, Lodi, and Mantua, and with the sponsorship of the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage of Cremona at the University of Pavia.

The exhibition aims to be an irreplaceable opportunity for study and research, as well as a moment to enhance a master little known to the general public, yet of undeniable importance in the field of figurative culture of the Renaissance in northern Italy, so much so that he was defined by Giorgio Vasari in his famous Lives as a "rare" and "excellent painter." Thanks to his activity, documented in the most important centers of northern Italy, Boccaccino emerged as an intelligent interpreter of the lessons imparted by Leonardo in Milan and by Giorgione in Venice.

The idea for the exhibition stems from the recent acquisition by the Diocesan Museum of Cremona of a panel by the Master, a fragment of an altarpiece that was once in the church of San Pietro al Po in Cremona, representing his last work, executed shortly before his death. With this acquisition, the Diocesan Museum of Cremona now boasts the most significant museum collection of works by Boccaccino, including the aforementioned restored altarpiece fragment, the magnificent Ludovisi Annunciation (permanently deposited by the Arvedi Buschini Foundation), the Crucifixion, and the Holy Family with Mary Magdalene.
