Burri Foundation

The Burri Foundation is located in the historic center of Città di Castello, the birthplace of Alberto Burri. Burri was one of the most important exponents of poor art in Italy and the Foundation's goal is to pay him homage. The Foundation was founded in 1978 by the will of Maestro Alberto Burri himself. Currently it is developed in two exhibition sites: Palazzo Albizzini and the Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco. The Former Tobacco Dryers were inaugurated in 1990 and are located on the outskirts of Città di Castello. The Former Tobacco Dryers are an example of industrial archeology recovery. Alberto Burri had inspected the factory and imagined it as a suitable place for his creations. Here are 128 works that correspond to his latest creations between 1974 and 1993. Burri perfectly combines his works with the potential of this exhibition space. The works on display focus solely on a single material: cellotex, a wood mixture used as a support for his works. Here modern and contemporary art conferences are held in collaboration with national and international artists.
