Connected Ecosystems. Museum and Post-varietal Communities Supported by PAC2024 - Contemporary Art Plan promoted by the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture

On Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 6:00 PM, the Civic Museum of Castelbuono is pleased to present to the public the exhibition Postvarietal Communities by Aterraterra  (Fabio Aranzulla and Luca Cinquemani).

The exhibition tells the project carried out by the artists during the year through a series of ten photographs and a sound installation set up in the Ex Scuderie and in the Castle Tower, starting from an experimental cultivation of wild and cultivated tomato varieties in the Art Garden, a green area adjacent to the Museum.

In addition to the hybrid tomato community, the exhibition presents a series of photographs and an audio installation in the Castle tower. The photographs depict some aspects of the growth process of the postvarietal tomato community and their changing forms: morphological features such as leaves, flowers, growing fruits, germinating seeds, and hairs covering leaves and stems. The images capture moments of this unpredictable morphological diversification and segments of an incessant becoming. Finally, in the castle tower, a sound installation is set up in collaboration with composer and sound artist Tobias Koch. The composition mixes sounds perceived by human hearing with vibrations and acoustic perspectives generated by other life forms inhabiting the Museum, including ground vibrations next to the roots, buzzing of insects, and their moments of interaction with the tomatoes of the postvarietal community. Throughout the exhibition, a manifesto work will be available to the public.
