The CARTEC - Cava Contemporary Art is a contemporary art space located in the artificial caves of the Middle Ages found in the basement of the Municipal Gallery of Art in Cagliari. CARTEC through its activities has reopened to the public an identity place for the Sardinian communities. The caves, in fact, were used as air-raid shelter and shelter for the works of the Civic Art Collection during the Second World War. Today the space, thanks to a program of exhibitions, visual artists and allows operators to carry out works related to the specificity of place. The Center is a dynamic place, a workshop, a site dedicated to promoting contemporary significant reconnections of the urban fabric with unexpected openings in similar contexts, and national and international scenarios. Creative space and laboratory of ideas, CARTEC is a place to experiment integration of intense emotional impact, between secular spaces excavated by man, and contemporary art. CARTEC hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary art based on research and on site-specific interventions, public art projects and artists who work in connection with the "underground".
