Spike Island, formerly known as Artspace Bristol is an arts and arts center founded in Bristol in the mid-seventies by a group of artists and sculptors who could not afford other spaces to work but who have, since the beginning, shared the space they found.

Artspace Bristol, now Spike Island, was born from this spirit of open collaboration.

The center is a point of reference for the entire community: collective exhibitions, artist residencies, cultural events and all kinds of events have been organized here and still are.

The building that houses Spike Island is an old Victorian mansion that fell into disuse and converted in 1989 thanks to a collective effort and a petition that involved about 12,000 people.

In 1992 Spike Island was officially born which is now home to hundreds of artists, small businesses that deal with art and creativity.

To date, Spike Island identifies itself as a real community available to all artists who want to come forward.
