House of History Bonn

The Haus der Geschichte is a museum in Bonn dedicated to contemporary German history. It is one of the most famous museums in Germany. It deals with the history of Germany from 1945 to today. The museum was born in 1982: soon after his inauguration, Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl asked in his government statement "that a collection on German history since 1945, dedicated to the history of our state and the divided nation, should be created in federal capital Bonn. As soon as possible ".

In an exhibition space of over 4,000 m², more than 7,000 exhibits and 160 multimedia stations illustrate contemporary German history in an international context. The exhibition itinerary is structured chronologically and includes the most important phases of recent German history, in particular the history of the divided nation. While the political history of the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR is the central theme of the permanent exhibition, the presentation of daily and cultural history allows visitors to confront their own past and also promotes dialogue between the generations. Numerous temporary exhibitions, conferences and scientific events are held in the Bonn House of History.
