The Kunstmuseum Bonn is a contemporary art museum. It is one of the largest contemporary art museums nationwide. It is housed in a modern building designed by the Berlin architect Axel Schultes and inaugurated in 1992. The museum's collection contains around 7,500 works. Particularly important is the section on German art after 1945, with a strong focus on painting and its extensive and image-related forms of expression. The museum also houses the largest collection in the world of works by the expressionist artist August Macke. At the same time, the international outlook of the museum collection was enriched through acquisitions by artists such as Robert Delaunay, Alexej von Jawlensky, Helmut Federle, Phil Sims and David Reed.
