From 23 March to 1 September 2024
Museion, Bolzano's museum of modern and contemporary art, is pleased to explore the cultural legacy of the Turin artist and publisher Ezio Gribaudo (1929–2022). Under the title The Weight of the Concrete , the exhibition pays homage to his multidisciplinary work at the intersection of image and language. In the light of a contemporary scenography, his poetics of matter also enters into dialogue with voices of experimental poetry. The exhibition is produced by the Grazer Kunstverein in collaboration with the Gribaudo Archive of Turin and with Museion.
The Weight of the Concrete is a complete homage to Ezio Gribaudo's multifaceted career, both as an artist and as a publisher. The exhibition re-evaluates her work at a time when many young artists are working transdisciplinary and regeneratively across visual and applied arts.
The exhibition's title is borrowed from Il Peso del Concreto (1968), a seminal book that presents Gribaudo's early graphic works, along with an anthology of concrete poetry edited by the poet Adriano Spatola. At the center of this publication and the exhibition is the emblematic series of Logogriffs that the artist has developed since the 1960s, moving from reliefs on blotting paper to reliefs in wood and polystyrene. Throughout his life, the Logogriffs formed a closely intertwined relationship with his activity as a book creator, as well as with his fascination for new industrial printing processes, typographical characters, language games and relief matrices.
