From 10 November to 4 February 2024
Continuing their commitment to disseminating and promoting Bolognese artists, Genus Bononiae and Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna present an anthology by Ilario Rossi.
About seventy works are on display in the exhibition, mostly belonging to the Rossi family collection, which cover the artist's entire career, from the Self-portrait of 1929 to a Still life with flowers from 1994, the year of his death. Active for over sixty years, in post-Morandi Bologna, Ilario Rossi is one of the undisputed and indisputable protagonists.
Rossi paints landscapes, still lifes, but also portraits and figures, all themes he interprets through a very personal, intimate vein.
In landscape painting Ilario Rossi best expresses his poetics; in his still lifes we instead find a true memento mori, while the human figure - faceless, unrecognizable, unidentifiable bodies - is represented as conceived and generated by nature as much as the trees, the sky, the stars, the animals.
The exhibition we present here seeks to investigate precisely this aspect of the artist's production, tracing in it the very clear signs that identify him as a painter of the existent, a painter of life and death.
