The Galerie Ausstellungsraum Klingental, located at Kasernenstrasse 23, inside the old Klingental barracks complex, is one of the longest-standing artist-run spaces in Switzerland. Founded in 1974 by artists, it occupies the 13th-century monastery church, renovated in 1981 by the Herzog & de Meuron studio to transform it into an experimental exhibition space.
The gallery promotes local and regional contemporary art, with curatorial projects organized by a constantly evolving team of artists, curators, and cultural mediators. The aim is to provide visibility to young emerging talents, as well as to re-engage established artistic figures in dialogue.
Each exhibition is conceived in an experimental and transversal format: installations, videos, performative and conceptual art. Recent exhibitions, such as Worldly Hearts (Anna Reutinger, 2024) and Instant Rumor (2024), have explored local historical narratives and environmental issues with a strong visual and participatory impact.
