Starting from Sunday, September 21, 2025, the largest anthology ever dedicated to Mattia Moreni, a central and restless figure in Italian post-war art, takes shape. The project Mattia Moreni. From training to "The last gasp before the great mutation", curated by Claudio Spadoni, is a journey that involves five museums in Romagna: a choral tribute to an artist who crossed the main currents of the 20th century - from neocubism to informal art - without passively adhering to any. Born in Pavia in 1920 and artistically trained in Turin, Mattia Moreni found in Romagna not only a refuge, but his chosen homeland: a territory that deeply marked his life and art. It is precisely from this bond that the exhibition project begins, aiming to reinterpret his work highlighting his role as a lucid communicator and an extraordinary anticipator of themes that are more relevant than ever today.

Opening the exhibition cycle is the Civic Museum of the Cappuccine in Bagnacavallo, in the detached branch dedicated to contemporary art of the Ex Convent of San Francesco, with the exhibition "From the beginnings to the posters", curated by Davide Caroli. Promoted by the Municipality of Bagnacavallo and the "Mattia" Association, and organized in collaboration with the Civic Museum of the Cappuccine, the exhibition will be open from September 21, 2025, to January 11, 2026.

Over 40 works are on display, coming from prestigious public and private collections - many of which are rarely seen - including some works previously presented at the Venice Biennale, in which Moreni participated multiple times starting from 1948, at the Rome Quadriennale, and in important European museums. The exhibition focuses on the first twenty years of his career, a period rich in awards and recognitions, marked by influences from Northern painters, Liberty style, and the Ferrarese painters of the 15th century. Accompanying the works is a meticulous documentation that captures the liveliness of his youthful season, immediately welcomed with interest by critics, including a very young Italo Calvino who in 1946 wrote: "Spirited, diabolical, whimsical, irrational, capricious, bizarre, young painter of unrestrained imagination and proud intentions".
