The coat of arms of Girolamo Tantucci, bishop of Grosseto (1622-1637), indicates the local commissioning of this splendid painting which was made in Rome by Rutilio Manetti, the greatest exponent of Sienese Caravaggism and capable of expressing an intense poetics of affection in his works.
