Altamura draws inspiration from an example of Dante's Trattatello in Laude written by Boccaccio.
With a skilful use of chiaroscuro, the painter investigates the psychology of the characters: from the figure of the great poet to the woman on the steps of the church of Santa Anastasia in Verona.
