With an extraordinary dynamism Constant Troyon paints "Cows à l'abreuvoir", as the title suggests, the painting shows five ruminants drinking in the stream, the latter rendered with extraordinary reflections seems to anticipate impressionist painting.
The work belonged to the collection of Napoleon III.
