Solitude is part of the research on the motif of the girl immersed in the silence of nature that Fontanesi conducted since the 1860s in numerous works. The work, presented to the "Turin Promoter" in 1875, was purchased by the noble from Reggio Emilia Roberto Levi and later donated to the Municipality of Reggio Emilia. "La Solitudine" has aroused the interest of numerous artists and critics, from Thovez to Emilio Cecchi. The work was selected for the 1901 Venice International Art Exhibition.
