The Zoological Museum of the University of Zurich, since 2024 part of the Natural History Museum of the University of Zurich, is located at Karl-Schmid-Strasse 4, in the heart of downtown Zurich, easily accessible on foot or by tram and the historic Polybahn.
On display are over 1,500 animals and fossils, with taxidermied specimens, skeletons, and vivid models that tell the story of evolution and global biodiversity.
The zoological collection includes about 900 species of mammals, 3,300 birds, 1,000 reptiles and amphibians, 3,000 insects, and 24,000 mollusks, many of which are used for scientific research.
On the ground floor, animals from the Swiss fauna coexist with large skeletons - from a woolly mammoth to dinosaurs - accompanied by sound effects and interactive screens. The underground area is divided by zoogeographical regions, with multimedia exhibitions and interactive quizzes for children and adults. The "treasure vault" houses about 50 extraordinary fossils, visible in a space designed to amaze and inform.
