From 21 June to 13 October 2024
At the Ca’ Pesaro Gallery, the presentation of the winning project of the XII edition of Italian Council took place, the program for the promotion of Italian contemporary art in the world carried out by the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
The project La desinenza estinta by Lucia Veronesi, emerges as a broad reflection on the relationship between the extinction of languages, botany, the history of science in its feminine declinations, and their socio-political implications.
Developed through a research phase between London, Trondheim, and Zurich, after exhibitions at MOCA London and The Hannah Ryggen Centre, Ørlandet Kultursenter, the final result at Ca’ Pesaro is a work composed of a tapestry and a video - to be presented on September 24 - arranged in the museum's inner courtyard, entrance hall, and project room.
The project, winner of the 2023 edition of Italian Council, is thus exhibited in a way that aims to explore, at the same time, the research process and its formalization, through the work that becomes part of the collection of the Ca’ Pesaro Museum.
Always attracted to the landscape - the domestic, intimate, and familiar one, the natural, urban, with the history of those who have lived there and those who inhabit it - in the work La desinenza estinta, Veronesi addresses the theme of the loss of indigenous languages and the traditional knowledge they preserve.
